About Us
Who We Are
As our name states, we are friends to feral cats, also known as community cats.
In 2007, Nancy Schneiter saw a need to help feral community cats. She utilized a TNR program.
TRAP – caught in humane box traps
NEUTER – spayed/neutered and vaccinated
RETURN – returned where they were found
By doing so, we have greatly reduced the population of feral colonies and, in turn, reduced the intake at local shelters. Shelter intake reduction helps create/maintain a no-kill situation. Our organization offers this service for free. Donations are greatly appreciated but not required.
We are a 501(3)(c) organization, our EIN is 58-1413062. We’re officially known as the Humane Society of Buncombe County (dba Friends2Ferals). We’ve been awarded the 2021 Silver Seal of Transparency from Guidestar. You can find our profile HERE.
